Mashable has just reported that Quepasa.com has acquired the Latino dating site, Corazones.com. Corazones.com was owned by SocialPlus.com (DNI Holdings LLC). SocialPlus runs a myriad of niche dating sites, but due to cash flow problems that started a few years ago, they focused more on running co-branded dating communities for existing portals. Seems that over the years they have lost momentum and many of their co-brand partners.
Quepasa.com is really more of a social portal than just a social networking site. From news, events, contests, photos, chat rooms and basic social networking profiles and communication features, they nicely package a powerful amount of user generated content and services, similar to BlackPlanet.com’s offering.
From their press release: “The integrated membership will also enjoy Quepasa’s highly rated entertaining, enriching, and empowering content features.” According a Business Week piece, Quepasa EVP, Charles B. Matthews said “Corazones.com will remain a standalone dating Web site, but it will be integrated into Quepasa.com so members from both sites can get the same benefits.”
This is a brilliant acquisition on their part. Looking forward to seeing how creative they get in integrating the two properties. Quepasa is a great niche social portal that has cleverly introduced social networking to their site and with this acquisition will now offer a premium dating service. Smart.
Gotta love niches =)
Peace,
